P0505SW.MORTLAKESLABTANKARD.EG     Excellent early brown stoneware saltglazed tankard with slight pouring mouth shape c1780, slab sealed with large Midnight Modern Conversation copy scene, very detailed with many visible items, 4 large tree sprigs, 2 mounted rider sprigs with brimmed hats and crops? a trotting hunt follower or beater, 3 triple hound sprigs and 1 doe sprig, with 4 further foliage sprigs/part sprigs dotted around, all very detailed and heavy, very proud and classic for early period of this tankard. Tinned rim applied to lip, lightly tapering outward to base with cordoned foot and large wide handle with flip back finial to base. cream/buff bod with light brown upper body glaze, warm and mellow. Excellent except for faint stable hairlines running across base and up side, but displays really well with much character for an unmarked example. 8 1/4

P0512.1760MALLET.M    classic top quality mallet c1760 blackglass English (dark/mid olive green), full original surface gloss, deep hummock kickup with light sand pontil, sagged base whittled sides round shoulders lopsided, into widish tapering neck many various bubbles and tears, going through downtooled stringrim below crudely sheared off refired lip. just ne nibble/flake off underside string ri and one nibbleoff edge of lip just above otherwisea near int bottle and very pleasing attractive example. 8 3/4

P0512.LOWLANDONION.M Classic lowlands (Dutch or Belgian) onion c1740, blackglass, (mid olive green) 95% original surface gloss, deep kickup with blowpipe pontil, quite high bodied globe form with flatter base, and short tapering neck from wide base through crudely applied roughly tooled stringrim below sheared off refire crude lip. light scratches and usage rubs but essentially very good example 7 1/4
